Bolo Grotesk is a typeface where roughness meets softness. Its relatively wide width and rigid endings create a rough and bulky feel while the rounded corners give its characters a more soft and friendly touch. The design is inspired by early grotesque typefaces and kungfu movie posters from the 1970’s. Although the true inspiration and name stems from the actor and martial artist Yang Sze aka Bolo Yeung. He made a carreer as being the bad-guy in many kung fu movies because of his rough appearance, ready to crush everyone and anything. But in real life he seems to be a very calm and friendly person.
Bolo Grotesk is a display typeface and mainly designed for the use on large and mid-large formats. Like posters, logotypes, website headlines or short texts.
